Hunger or thirst is a status effect that occurs after ten days without soup and five without water.

Gameplay effects

In the Journal, it will notify the player that one of the family members is thirsty/hungry or dehydrated/starving. Nothing will happen if the player doesn't give them water, but they may get sick if the player doesn't give them soup after five days.

  • A tip of the Boy Scout Handbook makes a joke on hunger and starvation, saying that "hunger leads to starvation, starvation leads to death and death leads to...well, nothing, really".
  • The best strategy to keep everyone healthy, well-hydratated and properly fed is to give them food and water every 5 days. Scavenging might mess up the rationing scheme though, so pay attention.
  • Sometimes, when a whole can of soup/bottle of water is consumed, a broken bottle or an empty can of soup may appear in the bunker.
  • When left insane for too long, some characters may consume a whole water bottle or a whole can of soup.
